If we face the fact head on that winter is around the corner, we can mentally and physically prepare ourselves to enjoy this season healthy, strong and motivated!
Our skin and hair will need extra moisture. A great rule of thumb is if you cannot eat it, do not put it on your skin! Anything put on the skin is directly absorbed into the bloodstream. The overall best body, face and hair treatment to keep skin and hair moist, youthful, nourished and protected in the cold weather months is organic, raw coconut oil. Keep a jar in the kitchen for cooking and spreading on toast. Keep a jar in the bathroom to smooth on skin after a shower. Prior to a shower, put some coconut oil in dry hair allowing it to soak for at least 20 minutes, and then shampoo it out in the shower.
Our body needs plenty of water during winter months. Run a humidifier, and make sure that you are drinking plenty of water (at least 2 liters or about a half a gallon per day).
Be very cautious to help prevent yourself from catching those nasty cold and flu bugs by frequently washing hands, and also, try to keep your hands off of your face. Itching your nose or eyes is a prime way to spread germs and start an infection.
Taking Vitamin D is a great idea during winter months. Our body produces Vitamin D via sunlight exposure, but we can be short on sunlight during the winter months in Chicago. Vitamin D will also help keep your bones strong. Organic egg yolks and fatty fish are a wonderful source of Vitamin D. Talk to your medical doctor about taking a Vitamin D supplement.
It is critical that we do all we can to keep a positive mental attitude in order to keep the winter blues away! One fantastic thing about living in an area that experiences different seasons is we have the opportunity to mix things up! Get the right gear so you stay toasty and get outdoors to ski, snowmobile or hike as exercise is mandatory to keep our spirits high. Take up a new hobby such as painting or board games – mix it up! Focus on taking the best care ever of yourself this winter: do a detox diet, once and for all reach your goal weight, get a juicer and load your body with vital nutrients which will propel you through winter!
